ABOUT THE ORCHESTRA

In August of 2003 Dave Chiappetta, Gordy Haab and Kyle Newmaster created the Novo Philharmonic. Novo is a 90-piece orchestra consisting of some of the most talented and well-rounded professional musicians in the Los Angeles area, specifically chosen for Novo as a reflection of their unique and diverse musical skills. The Novo Philharmonic was created with the purpose and mission of re-establishing a connection between popular music and the live symphonic concert experience. Contemporary symphonic literature is steadily losing its connection to popular music and as a direct result many generations of today’s music listeners have no emotional or intellectual attachment to music in the orchestral setting. The Novo Philharmonic sparks interest in these listeners by presenting music that mixes elements of popular music such as modern electronic instruments, cutting edge technology, improvisation and eclectic grooves with traditional orchestral concepts and techniques. In doing so, Novo brings the symphonic orchestra to the forefront of popular culture and introduces a whole new demographic to its powerful sounds and unlimited possibilities. Novo will present concerts featuring new compositions that incorporate these musical elements. Novo will also frequently collaborate with artists found in the foreground of today’s popular music. Novo will create new works with these artists, combining their unique abilities and styles with the amazing sound of the 90-piece Novo Philharmonic. Members of the NOVO Philharmonic were selected for their musical proficiency and unique abilities, and because of their interest and enthusiasm towards the vision of NOVO. Members of the NOVO Philharmonic have performed and recorded with many well known recording artists and ensembles including: Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Norah Jones, Wayne Shorter, Christina Aguilera, The Los Angeles Philharmonic (Esa-Pekka Salonen), Ray Charles, Joni Mitchell, Mariah Carey, Santana, The Supremes, Zubin Mehta, DMX, John Patitucci, Diana Krall, Destiny’s Child, Natalie Cole, Jason Mraz, The Brian Setzer Orchestra and many others.
